About Dr. Cohen
Dr. Adrian Cohen, MB, BS, is a licensed physician with a stellar reputation and years of experience in the medical industry. He is currently an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the School of Clinical Ophthalmology within the Department of Medicine at the University of Sydney in Australia.
He first attended the University of New South Wales where he received his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery with First Class Honours. During those years, he also gained experience at various teaching hospitals such as The Prince of Wales Hospital, The Prince Henry Hospital, The Royal Hospital for Women, and The Royal South Sydney Hospital. During the course of his studies, he also found time to be the editor of the medicine yearbook and the director of the University of New South Wales medical revues.
In the years following graduation, Dr. Adrian Cohen, MB, BS, made his way through stringent residency programmes, gaining experience in general and emergency medicine, as well as specific surgical procedures such as ear nose & throat, cardiothoracic, orthopaedic, and traumatic. He also spent years working with The Surf Life Saving Association Helicopter Rescue Service, Australia’s only national helicopter rescue programme, eventually working his way up to Medical Director.
One area of medicine in which he is extremely passionate about is the pre-hospital environment, with a particular focus on the prevention of concussion and neck-related injuries. As an Australian, he is fully aware of the dangers of certain activities, such as rugby, one of the team sports with the highest rates of head injury worldwide. Because of the frequency of concussions and paralysis, and after noticing a distinct lack of preventative and post-traumatic care in the medical industry, Dr. Adrian Cohen, MB, BS, decided to dedicate himself to the cause.
He has personally overseen the planning and operation of first responder medical care around the world and has worked tirelessly on his not-for-profit charity Nurosafe. These programs use awareness, advocacy, education and research to spread the word about preventable head and neck injuries, not just in the world of sport, but in any situation imaginable.
Dr. Adrian Cohen, MB, BS, is also the talent behind Nurochek, the latest in brain health assessment. This portable device is used to measure the brain’s normal electrical activity using EEG signals and can be used to detect brain injuries such as concussion and illness including dementia and stroke, as well as other neurological conditions.
He is also an accomplished author. In 1990 he published “A Guidebook for the Management of Acute Spinal Injuries” and “Survivor First Aid” that have been used repeatedly by medical and rescue personnel all around the globe. He also guests as a lecturer on the same topics frequently and has appeared on major television networks and programs like “Oprah”.
